Metaso for policy lookup — what to check after the source
After Metaso points to a paragraph in a policy, a standard, or other public material, open the source and check the clause number and whether the file is still in force. Internal data does not go into public search.
Related: Metaso →Tool page: Metaso. English public material uses Perplexity. When the answer must stay inside an internal handbook, use NotebookLM, not public search.
Compliance, marketing, and export coordinators can use it to land on a paragraph in a public file. After that, three checks still remain.
Questions that fit
- The scope of a policy or notice, with the document number
- One requirement in a national or industry standard, with the standard number
- The public background of a trade show, a certification body, or an industry report
Put the document number, the standard number, or the year in the question. Without them, you often land on an old version.
Three checks
First, the source. Open it. Confirm it is the official site, the standards library, or the original file, not a reposted headline. If you only have a Q&A page and no file, stop.
Then the clause. Match the clause number, the table number, or the sentence in the original. If the answer is only a summary and the original does not match, stop.
Last, whether it is still in force. Look at the effective date, the standard that replaced it, and any repeal note. If the file is repealed or replaced, stop.
Only after all three do you write the sentence into a customer note, a bid, or an internal memo. Keep the document number so someone else can check it.
Questions that do not fit
- This company’s sales and stock
- What a named customer bought last year
- “Do we comply with this standard?” Search can find the clause. Whether you comply is a business judgment against the product and the original text
Q&A over an internal pack stays inside the handbook you uploaded. Public search cannot answer the company’s own facts.
Lines you do not cross
- A search summary is not a legal opinion
- A source you cannot open is not cited
- An expired standard is not written into a customer file
To put policy lookup into an export or compliance flow, book a consult.
Questions
The answer already has a source. Do we still open it?
Yes. The link only says which page it cited. The clause number, whether it is still in force, and whether it matches your product still require the original.
Can we use it to look up our own sales or a customer?
No. Metaso searches public material. Internal data stays in your own sheet, CRM, or knowledge base.
How does it split from Perplexity?
Chinese policy, standards, and domestic public material use Metaso. English competitors, trade shows, and overseas public material use Perplexity. Both sides keep the source.
